Antigone

Project type

Student Production

Date

Sept 30 - October 3, 2010

Location

University of Miami Studio Theater

I directed an adaptation of Sophocles' Antigone utilizing six actors to tell the complete story. This production took place in our school's intimate studio theater, accommodating an audience of just 40 seats. My focus for this production was on deconstructing the play to suit the constraints of a small space.

In this interpretation, I omitted the traditional chorus, requiring innovative methods to convey the essential information typically delivered through those moments. Through strategic casting and meticulous editing, I condensed the production to a concise 60 minutes. I cast two actors to portray both the Chorus and select characters, allowing for dynamic storytelling and multifaceted performances.

Directing Antigone in this intimate setting provided me with the opportunity to explore creative stage compositions, intricate soundscapes, and nuanced lighting designs, enriching the audience's experience of this timeless Greek tragedy.
