Seussical Jr.
Project type
Spring Musical
Date
February 20, 2016
Location
Doral Academy Preparatory School
Seussical Jr. marked a return to the school's musical scene after a hiatus of over three years, igniting a spark of excitement among students eager to take the stage once more. I chose Seussical Jr. for its accessibility and charm, offering our theater magnet students a chance to shine alongside their middle school peers. It was a melting pot of creativity and camaraderie, a vibrant blend of talents from both age groups coming together for the first time.
Staging this production presented a unique challenge: we couldn't disrupt the school's daily dance classes and we would only have the space after school. This meant our set had to be sleek, portable, and easily maneuverable. Leveraging the room's large projection screen as a canvas for vibrant backdrops, we added layers of depth with carefully placed props, ensuring a seamless transition from a classroom to the performance space. And when it came to costumes, we partnered with a local children's theater who had a large costume warehouse. This infused each scene with a colorful whimsical spirit.
